Diversity is the problem

Let me start by recollecting an old story.

There was old man who had four sons. All four sons grow up but they keep fighting among themselves. So the old man decides to teach them a lesson . He gives each of them a stick of  two foot length and asks them to break it into two. All of them broke the sticks very easily . Then the old man gives the elder one a bundle of four sticks tied together and asks him to break  bundle in one go. Unable to break the elder one passes to other brothers . But none of them could break. Then the old man tells “United you stand, divided you break”.

Being a fan of Russell Peter’s stand-up comedy, I keep on viewing almost all of his stand ups. In one show he brings this issue of hate.  Normally we see one country citizens are seen hating other other country. But with India it is not the case. Indians hate Indians.  Initially I thought he was making a joke but now-a-days I can get it. You still don’t believe travel to foreign country you can see this clearly.  It is clearly visible on the face of every NRI  “Oh man , I ran away from India to escape these Indians . These idiots are still here also. God is there a place on earth without Indians”.  When we ourselves are pissed off looking at other Indians then the new western country visa rules are very much justified.

The issue why we are not united is diversity.  Everyone in India has his own region, language and dialect of language.  I forgot the main two things religion and caste.

Frankly India was never a democracy. India even before independence was driven by set of dissatisfied people. These few dissatisfied greedy people always controlled the fate of India. They disown their own creed and join a new one.  That is the reason India was easily vulnerable to “Divide and Rule” policy. During Nehru reign of India, they divided India into 24 states on the basis of prominent language spoken in that area. But not everyone was happy with that division. Years went on and even their dissatisfaction also rose.

Now that Andhra Pradesh state is bifurcated and it caused enough of rupture between two regions and two people. The people of two regions can be never be again united unless there is a miracle or a monarchy rule.   The actual issue is not a separate state and it does not stop with one bifurcation. Even if government declares every home in India a separate state there will one more agitation started after a few years demanding each room should be declared a new state.

The main problem is lack of vision by government. It should always focus on development across the state and should not localize to one particular city. Instead of creating greater Hyderabad and twin cities if it had concentrated on developing a couple of more cities so that people don’t run for opportunities leaving their native places.  Even if government has started to develop one more parallel city to Hyderabad today, Telangana issue would not have been so complex.

Let the story of Andhra Pradesh be included in the pledge for all leaders before they assume their posts. City limits should be restricted and they cannot be expanded strictly.  Investments and Opportunities should be spread across the region cannot be centralized to capital.

If that goes for leaders we people should learn to love and respect others instead of restricting to our own community. Separating from the stream may always not fit a perfect solution. At times uniting fits better. Teach your kids to love instead of hating someone if his classmate is not same as him.
