Rape Rape Rape … let us beat it.
All the culprits should be hanged to death. I heard one more attractive post /tweet “ if
the girl is send to Singapore for treatment, send the culprits to Saudi for
trial”. Sounds good. First, I completely feel
sorry for the girl and am really angry with rapists. Let me elaborate a few things related to this
in a better way instead of 180 letter tweet.
Although many of you
know but frequently forget two facts
1)
Media thrives on sensation.2) People memory is short.
Media need to have news that
makes headlines if they don’t, they have enough capabilities to pick up any
tenth page one column article to make headlines. Take the incident as a reference count of similar
incidents occurred before and after this incident. In fact enough rapes after the
incident and before the incident they are numerous. But why only this did
hit headlines? A rape is a rape irrespective of Delhi, moving bus or number of
persons involved. The newspaper which covers this incident on frontpage also have a separate page for “deep cleavages of most desired women of 2012” on it’s website.
Now talking about the second fact ,people are blessed with fading
memories. They don’t remember anything after a few days . You remember a guy
called “Anna Hazare”. Do you remember that he a struggle for Jan Lokpal bill
couple of years back? Immediately you
would say “Yes” but could you recollect what is Jan Lokpal bill.
After the two facts the immediate
topic Girls should be dressed sensibly. “It is my dress , it can be as short or
long I wish it to be, instead you learn to control your winky”. Perfect reply from
girls no worries , I can understand and always accept girls are independent. But who is affected after the incident is it
guy or the girl ? Obviously due to rules of nature , it is always the girl . After the incident even if the culprit is
hanged , still the girl suffers. If you
hang one or hundred culprits incidents keep on occurring and even if the
law is made enough strict incidents might reduce but cannot be eliminated completely.
And there
are numerous similar incidents which did not even get public attention due to
social fear, family and cultural restrictions, fear from the influential and
ofcourse out of court settlements.
In India still Sex is
considered a sin and people don’t even like to talk about it in public. This is not the same in other countries where
inter-marital relationship itself is considered normal. Educating everyone about
sex or more generically making one billion people literate is not a task that
could be accomplished within a year or within five years.
Although Law is made enough
strict , incidents like this do occur at one place or the other. There cannot be a
dedicated policeman for each bus that turns to road. So all these police man and hanging solutions are only for short term
and they don’t work in the long term. I am not the right guy to suggest a
solution being not aware of law and it rules. But all I can say is my sisters
and mothers take care of yourselves. Don’t take risks till the world becomes
risk free. Yes definitely I cannot guarantee, that after even you take enough
precautions incidents will not occur but alteast you did your bit to be safe.
I wish lawmakers would come up
with a strong law which would eliminate female insults soon. But again I repeat this cannot be made overnight .
